KD Program Structure

Options. Options. Options.  From electives to career support to international trips, with Kelley Direct you can tailor your education to fit your goals.

We realize that every student has their own reason for pursuing an MBA.  You may be looking for an immediate promotion or job change.  Or you may be thinking about your longer-term goals and dreams.  Kelley Direct’s unique structure allows you to customize your MBA experience while enhancing your skill set.

Kelley Connect Weeks
Your Kelley Direct experience begins with a week in Bloomington, Indiana.  Kelley Connect Week provides you the opportunity to build and strengthen relationships with the students and professors with whom you will be working.  You will also work on a team project that concludes with the presentation of a formal business plan.  While learning outcomes in the online environment exceed those in the classroom in many cases, Kelley Connect Week serves a vital role in building relationship and presentation skills.

Core Classes
After the first-year Kelley Connect Week, you begin your core classes online.  These classes provide the foundation of your business knowledge and include Economics, Quantitative Analysis, Strategic Marketing, Financial Management, Operations Management, and Strategy.  At the end of Year 1 of Kelley Direct Programs, you will return for the second Kelley Connect Week, during which you will put your skills to the test with an intensive case competition.

Electives
In the second year of the program, you can begin to tailor your studies around areas that interest you.  Through electives and clinics, you can take courses from “Increasing Your Effectiveness in the Workplace” to “Sustainable Operations” to “Marketing in the Era of Digital Technology.”

Global Trips
Business is global and the best way to understand how business works in each market is to spend time there.  Kelley Direct provides you the opportunity to take a course co-taught by Kelley faculty and a faculty member from a leading global business school.  At the end of the course you will spend a week in the country being studied.

Integrative Capstone
At the end of the MBA experience you will take C563, the Integrative Team Capstone.  You will take the tools you learn throughout the program and work in a team environment to develop a business plan for an existing company.  It is an opportunity to apply the skills you have developed in a real-world setting.

Dual Degrees
Of course, you do not have to stop at one degree!  Kelley Direct makes it easy to earn a second degree (MS in Finance, Strategic Management, or Global Supply Chain Management) with just 12 additional credit hours.  Best of all, you do not have to make a decision until the end of your first year in the program.

Career Services Support
As a KD student you would have access to the Kelley Graduate Career Services (GCS) Office.  In addition to one-on-one career counseling, you can also take a 1.5 credit hour course, “Increasing Your Effectiveness in the Workplace”, taught by GCS professionals.  You can also participate in on-campus recruiting.  For more information on GCS services, visit http://kd.iu.edu/aboutkd/careerservices.htm.

Kelley Alumni Network
The day you enroll in Kelley Direct you become part of the Kelley network.  The Kelley School hosts networking receptions for our 92,000+ alumni all over the country throughout the year.  Indiana University also hosts networking events globally for the over 500,000 IU alumni world-wide.  As a Kelley Direct student you can attend these events for free.  You will also be part of the Kelley InCircle and LinkedIn networks.
