I received an M.D. (M.B., B.Chir., both medical and surgical degrees), M.A. and Ph.D. from Cambridge University in Cambridge, U.K. and had just completed a certificate in business administration at Harvard University. I knew I also wanted to get a Master's Degree in Business Administration and was looking for a high quality MBA from a top-ranked school. With a full-time job and family, I also needed a program that would allow me to be flexible with my time. Kelley Direct was the high caliber distance learning program that I wanted.
The Kelley Direct MBA has given me the solid foundation that I wanted. With the customized program, I was able to spend less time on subjects I was already familiar with and more time developing areas where I had relatively little experience. As a result, I acquired an overall foundation that's very comprehensive but also very tailored.
The best part of the learning process at Kelley Direct has been its relevance. Like me, many of the Kelley Direct students are working full-time or being sponsored by employers. We approach learning the same way, by determining how coursework is relevant to job performance. Applicable learning allowed me to connect courses with the real world. Furthermore, we're always learning about teamwork, communication and technology skills so there's a lot of accessory learning besides the main courses. In effect, school helps me with work and work helps me with school.
I've grown much more rapidly by completing courses and working simultaneously than I would have if I had only done one or the other. The growth was so dramatic that by the end of my first year in the MBA program, I was promoted to a Director position.
Kelley Direct's flexibility enabled me to pursue an intense position and further my career. When there was a large spike in my workload, I could reduce my courses slightly and then increase them again when my job permitted. I would not have been able to do that in a traditional MBA program. I was able to choose the number of courses each quarter which permitted me to balance family, work and school.
