Kelley Cummins MBA Program
Program Overview
As part of its continued commitment to developing current and future leaders within the company, Cummins has partnered with the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University to offer a customized MBA program, called Kelley Direct, for high-potential Cummins employees.
The pilot class consisted of 23 full-time Cummins employees that started a two-year course of online MBA studies in February 2007. These students are from different parts of the world like Brazil, India, UK, China, Russia and US. For future classes, Cummins intends to deliver a mix of students to the program which draws equally from its mature and emerging markets.
Cummins is paying a 100 percent of the costs associated with earning the degree and students will be required to sign a repayment agreement stating that if they leave the company within 3 years after completion of the program, they will be required to pay back to the company all expenses incurred/reimbursed on the student’s behalf. Students will be expected to complete the program while also continuing to perform their work at Cummins.
Candidates will be nominated by their supervisors. They must have a minimum of two years experience with Cummins and be considered to have high potential for leadership in order to be eligible for the program. Candidates must also qualify for admittance to the Kelley School of Business based on their undergraduate record, GMAT scores and, in some cases, English language proficiency test scores.
The program will be run by the Kelley School of Business, considered one of the top 20 business schools in the United States. In addition to standard MBA coursework, this program will contain material specific to helping the company meet the challenges it will face in being a successful global company in the future, including a “capstone project” in the final quarter that will address a business issue identified by Cummins’ senior management.
While the bulk of the content will be delivered on-line, students will spend six weeks in residence either on the IU campus in Bloomington, US, and/or any other parts of the world, as identified in the curriculum, over the course of the program. All costs associated with the residency requirement will be paid by Cummins and will be assigned to the operating unit in which the student is employed.
