IU Account Creation

Please read through this document carefully before you begin the account creation process.  You may create an account after you are contacted by our Help Desk; this generally occurs after you are admitted to the university.

To create your first computing account(s) from any Internet-connected computer, follow these steps:

1 - Go to the Account Management Service at: https://itaccounts.iu.edu

*Note: You will need to know your 10-digit University ID number to create your initial account.  If you are in need of this information, please contact the KD HelpDesk at: kdhelp@indiana.edu

2 - Select Create my first IU computing accounts.

3 - Over the next several (7-8) pages, the Account Management Service (AMS) will display the rules and policies for Information Technology (IT) account use at Indiana University (IU).  After you have read each page, click Continue to proceed to the next page.  On the last page, enter ‘Yes’ to agree to these policies and click Continue.

4 - Enter your last name, date of birth, and University (10-digit) ID number in the fields provided.  Click Continue

5 - From available options, select where you want to receive your IU email.  Choose Create IMAP account. *If you would rather your IU email forwarded to an outside account, select Forward IU email to: and enter the email address in the field.  Click Continue.

6 - Enter the passphrase (password) you want to use in the appropriate fields.

7 - You will have the option of enrolling in the password self-service reset system.  This system will allow you to reset your passphrase, should you forget your password, without having to contact the HelpDesk.

  • Select Enroll in password self-service reset system and follow the directions below, or select Do not enroll to skip to the next step.  Click Continue
    • Either select a question from the drop down list, or enter your own question.  Type and re-type the correct answer in the fields provided.  Click Continue to enter further questions, 3 minimum to a maximum of ten. *Note: responses are case sensitive.
    • Once you have entered at least three questions and answers, you will have the option of clicking Done to complete your enrollment

8 - Click Print page if you want to print a copy of your account information.  Click Exit to end your AMS session and close your browser.

9 - Email your permanent Username to KDHelp@indiana.edu

Shortly after emailing your permanent username information to the Account Maintenance Team, you are notified with account authorization information for ANGEL and SCOPe access.  If there are additional questions or concerns, please contact our HelpDesk.

After all components of the account creation process are complete, you will gain access to the ANGEL Course Management System, IU Library Resources, IU-Ware, Kelley Direct Network, SCOPe, and other university web portals.
